About Jane

Jane Duford Johnston is an artist based out of Maple Ridge, BC, primarily focused on oil, pastel, and watercolour paintings. She draws inspiration from architecture and the natural world, especially the wide prairie skies and landscapes where she spent her youth in Saskatchewan.

Colour, texture, and pattern are the main tools Jane uses to express her feelings about the subjects of her work — painting is, to her, a form of meditation and the way she both processes and communicates her understanding of the world. Jane is especially interested in exploring the endless ways colours play off one another and how light impacts form.

Jane studied fine art at Kwantlen College, Emily Carr University, and the Academy of Art in Vancouver. She also learned the art of printmaking in Florence, Italy. She is an active member of local organizations the Garibaldi Art Club and the Group of Nine, as well as the Federation of Canadian Artists.

In June 2010, Jane returned to her hometown of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, to take part in the WOW (Women of Weyburn) show at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery. This showcase highlighted the work of women from across Canada who established their artistic roots in this small prairie town.

Jane is proud to have her work displayed in private collections across Canada and North America and as far away as Australia.
